The Filipino Family in the 10th year of the 2nd Millennium

It is now the mighty year of 2014. We have evolved and changed these past decades and centuries. We always look back to what the traditions and the culture was before. It is now time to recognize who we are today.

In the succeeding posts or blogs in this website, we will get to know who the Filipino Family is at present. We will see how the culture and traditions have evolved, may it be a positive or a negative change. In the future, we will have these blogs as a reference when we look back as to who the Filipino Family was in 2014.

THE FILIPINO FAMILY OF 2014:

ALL SMILES IN THE MIDST OF TRAGEDY

The Philippines is always affected by calamities such as storms because of where the country is located. But as you can see in the picture above, the Filipino Family stays strong together and in fact, they are happy and they keep smiling through whatever they are experiencing. The Filipino Family has learned to cope through these types of tragedies. Because these kinds of things happen often times in the Philippines, the Filipino Family has gotten used to it and they don't let everything get to them anymore. Instead, they find what's fun in their situation and use it to illicit smiles from one another.

Another thing about the Filipino Family is that they try to help other families even though their family was greatly affected by the tragedy also. This just shows how much stronger the Filipino Family has become.

THE FILIPINO FAMILY OF 2014:

OVERSEAS FILIPINO WORKERS AS BREADWINNERS

A typical Filipino Family has got one breadwinner. At present, these breadwinners have also become what we call the Overseas Filipino Workers. We've got millions of them all over the world, working hard to keep the family they've left behind in the Philippines afloat. We call them as the "Bagong Bayani" or the new heroes of our time.

It is not easy to go to a foreign country that is sure to have different culture, traditions and norms but these workers brave these conditions because they know that their family needs them. Nowadays, it is normal to have a Filipino Family incomplete because there are member/s who is/are OFWs.

THE FILIPINO FAMILY OF 2014:

STAYS CONNECTED

Like what was discussed in the previous post, Overseas Filipino Workers as Breadwinners, the members of the Filipino Family is now far apart from each other. But staying connected is not as hard as it was before because we've got technology! A lot of the advances in our technology has actually helped the Filipino Family maintain their relationship with their family members.

We have websites such as Facebook, etc. to keep us connected and updated to what our family is up to. Facebook may actually be the most popular social networking website we have as of today. It keeps everyone entertained and busy reading updates, sharing pictures and videos, playing games, and whatever other things we can think of.

Also, we have Applications such as Skype, Viber, Etc. which will only need an internet connection so that you can call or video conference with your loved ones all over the world!

THE POWER OF TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY

If there is one negative thing about the effect of today's advances in technology to the Filipino Family, this might be it:

This might only be applicable in well-off Filipino Families but nonetheless, this is a wide occurrence in Filipino Families at present. Every member of the family is busy using their own electronic gadgets, updating their Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites or applications that they often neglect their family members around them. They are so focused in keeping themselves updated that they forget to spend time with their family members around them.

THE FILIPINO FAMILY OF 2014: BONDINGS

SUNDAY MASS

The tradition of the Filipino Family going to church together has not been lost through out the years. As most Filipino Families are still Catholic by religion, hearing Mass every Sunday still becomes a weekly bonding for the typical Filipino Family.

FAMILY DINNERS

The Filipino Family will always bond over food. We just love to eat food and with good company, nothing beats family dinners. It is the time wherein we share all the happenings during the day and for most families, by this time, the family is complete either from school or from work.

REGULAR FAMILY OUTINGS

The Filipino Family always looks forward to their regular family outings. These outings most often than not happen during holidays and summer. For Filipino Families, outings are often if not always swimming. We like to go to beaches and resorts because the Philippines is a hot country. We like to beat this hot weather in a fun way with our families.

LOVE FOR SPORTS

Every member of the Filipino Family is secretly (or not so secretly) in love with a sport. For most Filipinos, it's Basketball. A lot now loves volleyball. But whatever sports they love, a Filipino Family tries to watch the live together. It feels great cheering for your favorite team alongside your family.

ASIANOVELAS

There is no question about how much Filipinos love Asianovelas. Watching Asianovelas has been in fact, a bonding moment for the Filipino Family. The biggest television network in the Philippines which is ABS-CBN has been showing a lot of Asianovelas dubbed with Filipino words and voices. A lot of Filipinos loved these asianovelas that even if they bring it back, like what they did with Meteor Garden, ratings will still be super high.

IT'S SHOWTIME

One more thing that the Filipino Family bonds over? It's Showtime! Filipino Family really loves this noon time show because it brings so much joy to the viewers. The hosts treat each other as family and they let the viewers see that they love them. The Filipino Family enjoys watching this show because of how much they can relate to it and because it brings so much laughter to the family.

THE FILIPINO FAMILY OF 2014:

FAMILY SELFIES

There is not a single Filipino Family who won't want to take a family selfie. Selfies are the new fad now and what Filipino Family doesn't follow a fad? Not a single member of the family won't enjoy taking family selfies especially since it's with their loved ones.
